Interested in exploring social issues with university students

with international backgrounds?

Our chosen theme of “gender” may sound difficult and unfamiliar.

However, you may discover that its issues are all around us!

This bugs me a little….” “Should this be normal?”

Small questions about your daily life - school rules, pay gaps, lookism, gender roles - can lead to a bigger understanding of how our society work.

Put your English skills to use 💪 Experience what it’s like to learn in English through practical discussions.

Not confident? No worries! We will group you based on your English level.

Feel free to join with a friend!

The information displayed in this section is preliminary and subject to change.

We will split up in groups with one to two university students per group, and have a casual discussion about societal issues and similar themes.

After the workshop, ask questions to university students!

- What does it feel like to attend a university in Tokyo?
- What is unique about Waseda?
- How is student life?

Presentations from the University Students

The university students will talk about their own experiences with societal problems from a gender perspective, focusing on, amongst other things, differences between living in Japan and other places of the world.

Ice breakers

By interacting with other participants in discussions and quizzes you have the chance to make new friends!

Mini lecture from a university Professor

In the workshop, we will bring up topics that high school students often do not get a chance to talk about. Moreover, participants will get a chance to listen to a short lecture from a real professor at Waseda University. This event is a chance to experience a university setting while still in high school!

Interactive activity

Using quizzes and doing team activities, you might gain new perspectives and understandings of new things!

Group discussions

We will be handing out Waseda University Pens and pamphlets on the day of the event!

Fukui Prefecture is seeing an increasing number of women in their 20s moving out of the prefecture. What kind of community development can be effective for women to continue living in Fukui? What challenges emerge from the voices of women in Fukui? The One Woman Project conducted by the Fukui Shimbun is undertaking various initiatives to uplift the women of Fukui, including collecting personal stories for publication and holding workshops for companies and universities.

Fukui Shimbun
"One Woman"

They aim to widely disseminate the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through community-based activities. Their core focus is SDG Goal 5: Achieving Gender Equality. Based in Sabae, a city developed through the eyewear industry, they pursue initiatives that balance global awareness with local commitment, operating from a “glocal” (global x local) perspective.
